my inner monster

Pisces: In her book Frankenstein, Mary Shelley created a monster who was smart and sensitive. He felt empathetic pain for the suffering of Native Americans. He desperately wanted a mate. He read Milton's Paradise Lost, and felt a grieving kinship with the struggles of Adam depicted therein. In accordance with current astrological omens, Pisces, I encourage you to acknowledge and express love for your own inner Frankenstein monster--the tormented, disfigured, and yet powerful part of your psyche that needs your compassion. I'm sure that this will prevent it from doing what Shelley's fictional character ultimately did, which was to go on a rampage--and will maybe even set it on a course to become a force for good.

the big white

How is it that movies (and/or other things) can fly completely below your radar sometimes? Last night, on the verge of sleep, I noticed The Big White, with none other than Robin Williams, Holly Hunter, and Woody Harrelson. So of course I ended up staying up till 2am watching it. It was great! And of course I ate Black Cherry Fudge Chunk frozen yogurt for dinner. Duh.

covet

I want everything from this store. It's all so funny and awesome and reasonably priced! Like the "You Are Here" doormat. But, of course, they "don't ship to Canada", because we're queer or bilingual or so far away or something. I'm really really tired of "international shipping" rates. I could drive to your freaking country in 5 hours, you jerks.

my new love and distraction

Someone had the bright idea of bringing over their Xbox to my place and leaving it here. "I want to show you how to play Halo and Splinter Cell", he said. "I want to see if you can make it through a basic battle". About 5 minutes into Halo I started crying. I hated it. I don't want to realistically shoot things and get pinned off by snipers in 5 seconds flat. What a horrible feeling. But give me a freaking fake gun and some cute cartoon characters? Woohoo! We started by renting the "Under the Hedge" game, and I pretty much finished it in a day. Then we rented "Lego Star Wars 2" and I panicked when we were only 27% done and it was due back the next day. So what was the sensible solution to this problem? Buying the freaking game of course.

new glasses

I made this photo for my mom and brother a couple of years ago for Christmas - it's fucking awesome if I do say so myself. I totally look like my dad. And I'm so totally not buying those frames. But it's time for a new prescription and time for new glasses and thus begins the elusive hunt for that fantastic set of frames that you think looks great but can't really tell because you can't focus due to the fact that you don't have your glasses on... I'm getting so very blind. It makes me wonder if one day my eyes will just eventually run out?

ho-ho-holidays

I've had this picture for months and only realized right now that they are wearing paper bags on their heads. Ha!

New Year's was lovely, just me and S and a couple of bottles of wine, some fancy salted nuts and some roasted garlic and brie and crackers. Couldn't find an official Saskatchewan countdown to save our lives so we guessed and got it bang on. I was very glad to be able to stay home with him and not venture out into the madness. I'm on holidays this week because it seemed ridiculous to not take 4 days holidays and get 9 days off in exchange... you gotta love the stats, man. We're thinking about finishing my attic, which means learning how to drywall, which means... well, learning how to drywall. And figuring out if the insulation and vapour barrier that is up there is sufficiently done, or needs to be fixed/ripped out and rehung. Yikes.

We played a rousing game of scrabble first thing New Year's Morning and the word "asteroid" got played fairly shortly into the game. I then spent a long time thinking about how to play off of it, which has now developed into a whole line of asteroid jokes.

What do you call an asteroid who wins the marathon race?
A fasteroid.

What do you call an asteroid who loses the marathon race?
A lasteroid.

What do you call an asteroid with a broken arm?
A casteroid.

What do you call an asteroid with dreadlocks?
A rastaroid.

What do you call an asteroid DJ?
A bombasteroid.

What do you call an asteroid who can't believe what is happening?
An aghasteroid.

What do you call an asteroid at the amusement park?
An all-day-passteroid.

What do you call an asteroid who likes high speed internet?
A comcasteroid.

What do you call an asteroid that's come to a dead end?
An impasstroid.

And my personal favourite, punchline courtesy of my mother...

What do you call an asteroid who loves attending church?
A cleric. (No mom! It's a massteroid! Do you get the line of humour here?)

So yeah, don't steal them. I'm planning on writing a children's book. Pure gold.
