summer in saskatchewan

What exactly is it about summer that kyboshes the blogging? I guess the obvious answer is that everyone is outside instead of sitting in front of their computers like they did during the dark dark hours of winter. I still spend a fair amount of time doing it, though, but most of it has been trying to get this darn thing back together the same way it was before I took it apart. 80+ hrs later and it's still not. For some reason I am way too emotionally attached to hundreds of email that were sent to me over the last 3 years, and even though I double and triple checked that I was properly saving the archive.pst folder I created, it's not loading them back in to the new and "improved" ripped version of Outlook that I installed. I seriously lost it when I couldn't get them to import. For some stupid reason I really need every single one of those messages telling me exactly what is wrong with me and why I will never be any sort of decent human being. What the hell is wrong with that picture?

It's funny, this busy summer thing. I've had a few conversations lately where everyone is realizing that summer kind of sucks. The way I look at it is this: You've got 4 months to do everything you've been planning to do for 8 months, and by the time that June hits you've got pretty much every weekend planned which leaves you no time to roll around in the grass and partake in random picnics and bike rides which is what you've been dreaming about all winter. No siree, summer is all go-go-go when really all you've been craving is sitting on a patch of sand next to some water for hours on end with no place to be. Those moments are hard to find in a jam-packed summer. There's the jazz festival (which shockingly, I hardly attended this year), and Taste of SK, and the Fringe (I am so not volunteering for that one again) and the Ex and Regina Folk Festival and Dragon Boats and weddings and funerals and farewell parties and jesus how about a moment to relax without feeling like you're missing something? So that's what I'm doing this weekend. I'm packing my SSO books and my awesome new bathing suit a la Marilyn Monroe and I'm heading to the lake with... 12 members of my immediate & extended family including 5 children and my mom. Ah well. It will still be fun. Those kids should be old enough by now to know how to mix a stiff drink.

no comment

Due to an overwhelming response and much input from any one of the 9,417 page views I've made the excutive decision to close comments again. I just couldn't handle the drama. So much debate, so many words spoke in anger and haste. Seriously people. Ya'll were out of control.

Last night I dreamt that I beat the shit out of my dead father. Well, he wasn't dead in my dream, no he was drunk and in bed with a girlfriend, and I just started kicking the shit out of him. And then he starts showing me all these things he has, things I've lost over the years and didn't know where they went to, it turned out that he (as a ghost) would randomly take important things from me to stay a part of my life. So I kicked the shit out of him some more.

rainy sunday

What else are you gonna do besides watch a 3hr movie about flesh-eating zombies & car crashes? The movie usher gives it 5 thumbs up.

[Dear night dear shade dear executioner]

Dear night dear shade dear executioner

Fears: snakes madness falling

The sword has broken over this head

It sure enough gets old
the way we do things

Defend me if you can
Collect my tears if you will

G-o-d is the boss with the sauce
he's too sweet to be sour

He's got his finger on the wrong-answer button

The ineffable joys for those who
unfeignedly love, transcend the documentary constraints,
pledge mercy, etc.

After all, you are not Mandelstam

She said she was in love with Aqua Man
Aqua Man? It's a showerhead, stupid

And that Sister Woman, is what you call safe sex

For whatever it's worth
135,000 take guns to school every day

Sound of that emotional collision
between perps and victims

No condoms for the heart

umm pt. 2

I got nothing. I'm planting a garden. Summer is too short, almost every weekend is planned already. Spearhead is playing at the Regina Folk Fest, Corb Lund @ the Exhibition, and Blackie & the Rodeo Kings at the Broadway Theatre. All in the same week. 6 weeks since I quit smoking. It's REALLY hard to get rid of a hide-a-bed. That's about all.

all my problems solved

Just came back from "Knocked Up" at the Galaxy. It was pretty good, in terms of a Hollywood feel-good movie with the appropriate amount of male groin injuries. I laughed a few times, chuckled a few more, and even had the beginning of tears in my eyes at one point. But more importantly, I learned a really really valuable lesson tonight. I don't have to worry about being child-less and 33 anymore. I learned tonight that all I have to do is have a drunken one-night stand and get pregnant, and then I will live happily ever after with the guy who was too dumb to wear a rubber. Sweet!

there are some things I will never understand

Like why, in god's name why, would you put a port-a-pottie in direct sunlight at +30C? It's enough to make me not want to volunteer to build houses again. Especially next week, when I know I'll be bleeding. There are some days you can just tell the world is really run by men.
